No Gree for PROCRASTINATION

As you read this, you\’re probably on your bed, moving from Twitter to Instagram, ignoring an assignment due by 11:59. You should be reading for that test you have next week but we both know you won\’t start reading until it is a night to the test.
11:59er, your timeline can wait but Professor Kinikan will most definitely not wait for you. I know you know it, but you just can’t seem to control the desire to engage in unproductive activities, so every time you are supposed to carry out an important task, you move it to the next hour/day/week. Now all your “tomorrows” have piled up into one huge mound of anxiety.
TFS understands that it\’s not always laziness. Sometimes, it stems from fear of failure, anxiety, feeling overwhelmed, the desire to be perfect, physical/mental exhaustion, or lack of organizational skills.
TFS is here to give you tips on how you can take control and be super productive every day, yet, find time to relax and have fun with other things.
● Be honest with yourself: The plain fact is that your time management abilities might not improve unless you admit that you are not being as productive as you should. You tend to be in a better frame of mind to increase your productivity when you identify the specific type of procrastination issue you\’re facing.
● Decide on good study locations: Your study area should ideally include lots of natural light, a clear table, and space for you to spread out your books and study gadgets. These places should ideally be places where you don\’t engage in any other activity, such as watching TV, gisting with friends, or taking naps. Your brain will eventually realise that you are going to concentrate on your schoolwork when you get to this certain place.
● Set realistic goals and break them down: The issue with students is that they set bulky unrealistic goals and eventually get overwhelmed by them. Many people put off doing tasks because they feel too big for them to handle or because they are unsure of where to begin. Breaking down your school work into manageable activities, such as creating a term paper outline or studying for an exam in tiny doses, can help your studies feel less overwhelming. To aid in maintaining attention, you can also set a timer for a predetermined amount of time.
● Clap for yourself physically and mentally: Overcoming the habit of procrastination takes time. Forming a habit requires a sequence of positive behaviour, such as completing your assignments within a fair time limit and progressing ahead in your classes. It also calls for some self-control and discipline. Rewarding yourself for a job well done is something you should not be scared to do when you complete significant work ahead of schedule.
● Join a study group: Knowing that you must contribute to the study group can help you overcome procrastination if you lack the motivation to study regularly by making you feel accountable for your work. Peer pressure from the study group and your sense of accountability to the group will make sure you finish the chores provided on time. Setting a regular date and time for your study group\’s meetings also reduces the likelihood that you\’ll miss a session. You\’ll have accountability for your academic work in the group, and you might even pick up some tips and strategies for studying and remembering the content.
● You should break the bad habit of delaying, even if you have been doing it since high school and it hasn\’t affected your work or sleep pattern. You still have a job and other commitments, so put your phone aside and quit browsing the internet. Be intentional and stop saying, \”I plan to or I will\” and say more of \”I am or I\’m on it\”. While it\’s acceptable to postpone tasks occasionally, it\’s crucial to remember that prolonged procrastination may have detrimental effects on your body and health because you tend to overwork and crash-study to meet deadlines.
